Which Is Sportier, the 2025 Chevy Trax 2RS or the 2025 Honda HR-V Sport?

If you’re shopping for a subcompact SUV, you might be looking for a little something extra beyond the usual perks of this body style. Sure, small SUVs have solid fuel economy, and they have dimensions that make them perfect for navigating busy streets and squeezing into tight parking spots like in the city or parking structures.
But maybe you have a part of you that also wants one that’s a little thrilling—a performance-oriented SUV. Well, the good news is that if you’re looking at a Honda HR-V or Chevy Trax for sale, both models have a performance-oriented trim; for the 2025 HR-V, it’s the Sport, and for the 2025 Trax, it’s the 2RS.
The question is, which one is the better trim? They both promise some more striking style details and creature comforts than their base models, but do they each deliver on that promise? After doing a side-by-side comparison, we feel that the 2025 Chevy Trax 2RS offers more performance bang for your buck than the 2025 Honda HR-V Sport.
The Trax Has Larger Wheels
Both of these trims get you a size boost in the wheel department compared to the other trims. However, the Trax 2RS is going to get you an extra inch more. It has 19-inch black painted machined aluminum wheels, while the HR-V Sport has 18-inch gloss-black alloy wheels. When it comes to head-turning style, bigger is better, and the size of these wheels also helps with performance. Bigger tires mean better traction, better handling, better stability, and more ground clearance—all things that someone interested in performance features should care about.
You might have also noticed that the Trax’s wheels are made from aluminum, while the HR-V’s are made from an alloy. Aluminum is known for its superior heat resistance—and if you plan on pushing your small SUV to the limits in terms of speed, abrupt stops, and even abrupt starts, then you know your wheels have to be ready to handle some heat. All in all, those ever-important round things that your SUV rolls on are simply better in the 2025 Trax 2RS than the 2025 HR-V Sport.

The Trax Has an Awesome Interior
We believe that a truly performance-inspired vehicle should have a cool interior. It should create an exciting experience and distinctly set itself apart from the non-performance-oriented trims. The Trax 2RS certainly does this with its striking red interior. This hue is invigorating and thrilling; it provides a sense of excitement that a regular black or gray interior doesn’t. The HR-V Sport is not available with a colorful interior, so if you’re looking for something striking and exciting, go for the Trax 2RS.
The Trax Has Better Seat Material
If you’re planning to take your vehicle out for a serious spin, you should expect to be jostled around a bit, and you might even break a sweat. Thus, you need seats that can handle heavy use—and the Trax 2RS has them, with Evotex upholstery. This is a premium material that not only elevates the look of a vehicle’s interior but is also made to last. That’s because it’s highly resistant to stains as well as wear and tear.
So whether you accidentally spill some of a coffee or soda while enjoying the ride or you just spend a lot of time soaking in your seats, you can expect the Evotex to look good and hold strong after tons of use. The HR-V Sport merely has cloth seats, so you don’t get an improvement in upholstery for this trim compared to the base-level trim—and cloth upholstery is not nearly as tough or resistant as Evotex.
The Trax Has a Heated Steering Wheel
If you live somewhere cold, you know how hard it is to do precise, spirited steering when your fingers are like popsicles. You have to rub your hands together, blow on them, or put them in front of the heating vents for minutes before you can hit the road. Not so in the Trax 2RS, though, because it has a heated steering wheel.
The HR-V Sport does not have that. Both vehicles have heated front seats and heated exterior mirrors that can melt away ice, which would interfere with visibility, but only the Trax 2RS gets you that heated steering wheel, which some performance-oriented drivers might say is a must-have.
The Trax Has an Available Sunroof
Do you want to take in some rays while you drive? If you spend a lot of time in your vehicle—maybe in a long daily commute—you might feel cooped up, and one way to fix that is through natural light. You can get heaps of this with the Trax 2RS because it has an available sunroof add-on. The HR-V Sport sadly does not, so it’ll be all shade, all the time for its occupants; you’ll have to wait to park and get out before you can feel the sun’s rays on your skin again.

The Trax Has a Cargo Cover
If you keep valuables in your rear cargo hold, then you probably don’t want prying eyes staring at them—which means you probably want the Trax 2RS because it has a standard cargo cover. Once again, the HR-V Sport doesn’t have anything similar, so passers-by can just look in and see your laptop, sensitive files, sports gear, or whatever you keep in there.
The Trax Has Daytime Running Lamps
We all know that just because it’s daytime doesn’t mean visibility is good. That’s why the Trax 2RS has LED running lamps. These improve low-light noticeability (for other drivers) and operate when your headlamps are off. They also just happen to look cool, which doesn’t hurt. The Honda HR-V Sport has regular headlamps but no daytime running lamps. So, if you live somewhere that has lots of fog and overcast days, you won’t enjoy as good of visibility in the Honda HR-V Sport as you will the Chevy Trax 2RS.
