The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV has officially been my daily driver for over six months, and it’s quickly becoming a favorite vehicle in my ownership history. Combining bold design, cutting-edge technology, and impressive performance, the Blazer EV is a versatile option for those looking to make the switch to electric.

But as with any new technology, potential owners, friends, and family have plenty of questions regarding the EV lifestyle. In this blog, I’ll answer some of the most frequently asked questions about owning a 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV.

1. What Is Its Travel Range?

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV offers an impressive range, with estimates varying depending on the trim level. The RS trim boasts up to 324 miles on a full charge and roughly 280 miles at 80% (the daily recommended battery percentage), while other trims like the 2LT and SS offer ranges between 279 and 290 miles. Real-world range can vary depending on driving habits, terrain, and weather conditions. (When it’s cold, the car expends battery charge quicker.)

2. How Long Does It Take to Charge?

Charging time depends on the charging method. Using a DC Fast Charger (Level 3) at a public charging station, the 2024 Blazer EV can gain approximately 75-80 miles of range in just ten minutes. With a Level 2 home charger, a full charge typically takes around 8-10 hours.

3. How Often Do You Charge It?

In a normal week, I charge my car once or twice at home, depending on my driving that week. For reference, I drive about 1,250 miles per month. With 80% starting battery charge, I usually try not to let it drop below 30%, especially in a Hudson Valley winter. I rarely ever charge on a public charger, unless it’s a longer road trip.

4. What Are Its Maintenance Requirements?

One of the biggest perks of owning an EV like the Blazer is reduced maintenance. Say goodbye to oil changes! Regular maintenance primarily focuses on tire rotation, brake inspections, software updates, and checking the battery’s health.

5. Is It Suitable for Long Road Trips?

Absolutely! With its impressive range, DC Fast Charging capabilities, and access to GM’s Ultium Charge 360 network, the Blazer EV is road-trip-ready. Drivers can plan routes using charging station maps integrated into the vehicle’s infotainment system. The only issue I’ve run into on a longer road trip is when I have pre-planned a stop and that charger is out of service or unavailable. Finding Level 3 chargers along your route is a necessity if you’re planning a road trip. Relying on a Level 2 public charger for a road trip would be very time-consuming!

6. How Does It Handle in Bad Weather?

The Blazer EV is designed to perform in a variety of weather conditions. Its optional all-wheel drivetrain (AWD) provides excellent traction in rain and snow, while battery thermal management systems help optimize performance in extreme temperatures. I have driven through one snow storm and one ice storm, both on the highway, and have been totally comfortable and safe just taking it easy!

7. How Do Its Costs Compare to Gas-Powered SUVs?

While the upfront cost of an EV can be higher, owners often save money in the long run thanks to lower fuel costs and fewer maintenance requirements. Each month, I get a report that takes the mileage and figures out how many gallons of gas were saved over that time period. After six months of regular driving, I have averaged roughly 60 gallons of fuel saved. Taking the current average of $3 per gallon, that’s about $180 saved per month just in gas!

8. What Warranty Does Chevrolet Offer for It?

The 2024 Blazer EV comes with an eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty and Chevrolet’s standard three-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, which gives owners peace of mind regarding long-term reliability.

9. How Has Charging Affected Your Electricity Bill?

Comparing year over year is a bit tough for the summer months, as we ran a few ACs nonstop for three months straight. But looking at September, November, and December, our household used less electricity in 2024 versus 2023, back when there was no EV charging being done!

10. How Did You Install Its Charger?

The 2024 Blazer EV came with a Level 1 (120V) and Level 2 (240V) charging plug, so all we had to do was install a 240V outlet in our garage, which cost about $600. We installed our 240V outlet approximately four feet from the electric panel in our garage. This cost will vary between electricians and can also be more expensive if they have to rewire or relocate the current electric setup.

11. Would You Purchase Another EV?

Absolutely! The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV is one of my favorite vehicles I have driven! It’s powerful, efficient, family-friendly, and tech-forward.
