2027 Chevy Silverado 1500: Trim Levels, Towing, and Costs
2027 Chevy Silverado 1500: Trim Levels, Towing, and What It’ll Cost
The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a full redesign with a seven-trim lineup, two brand-new V8 engines, and a 16.3-inch touchscreen standard on every model including the Work Truck. It’s expected to go on sale at the end of 2026. Here’s the part most articles gloss over: Chevrolet hasn’t published horsepower, towing, payload, or pricing yet. Those numbers are scheduled to drop in mid-September, and we’ll update this page the day they do.
Until then, here’s everything Chevy has actually confirmed, plus current-generation figures so you have a realistic ballpark to plan around.
What’s confirmed vs. what’s coming
Confirmed by Chevrolet: seven trims, four powertrains, standard screens, standard safety tech, Super Cruise availability, colors, off-road hardware.
Not published yet: horsepower, torque, towing, payload, fuel economy, and MSRP. Any site quoting 2027 tow ratings right now is guessing.
The Seven 2027 Silverado Trims
Chevy cleaned up the lineup for 2027. The LT, RST, LTZ, and LT Trail Boss names are gone. The old LT is now simply called Silverado, and the LT Trail Boss becomes Trail Boss. Three of the seven trims are factory-lifted, which tells you where truck demand has been heading.
Work Truck
The fleet and job-site truck. Straightforward interior that’s easy to clean, configurations built around common upfits, and for the first time, a diesel option. Even at this level you still get the 16.3-inch center display and 12.2-inch digital cluster, which is a big change from how base trucks used to be equipped.
Custom
One step up, and the styling starts showing up: dual exhaust and 20-inch Technical Gray machine-faced wheels are now part of the package. This is the value sweet spot for a lot of buyers who want a full-size truck without the extras.
Custom Trail Boss
The affordable way into the lifted lineup. You get a 2-inch factory lift and 34-inch tires without stepping all the way up to Trail Boss or ZR2.
Silverado
The renamed LT, and probably the volume trim. Here’s the detail worth circling if you drive in the Hudson Valley: order the Silverado trim with 4WD and the Z71 package comes standard, which adds skid plates, hill descent control, and off-road suspension. That used to be a paid add-on. Super Cruise is also available at this level.
Trail Boss
A real off-road trim rather than an appearance package: 34-inch mud-terrain tires, a 2-inch factory lift, and a dedicated off-road hood. Two unique interior themes and Torch Red-edged seatbelts set it apart inside. Super Cruise is available here too.
ZR2
Chevy calls this the most off-road capable ZR2 ever, and the hardware backs it up: 35-inch mud-terrain tires, a 2-inch lift, front and rear electronic locking differentials, and Multimatic DSSV dampers with jounce dampers. Inside, it’s the first ZR2 with real forged carbon-fiber trim. The ZR2 Bison Edition, built with American Expedition Vehicles, adds AEV bumpers, rocker protection, 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels, and a full skid plate set. Super Cruise and the 11.5-inch passenger screen are standard.
High Country
The flagship. Standard 22-inch After Midnight machine-faced wheels, an exclusive Tritan Satin grille, real wood trim, and a Silverado-first panoramic sunroof. Super Cruise, the passenger screen, head-up display, and rear camera mirror all come standard, adding up to more than 60 inches of digital display.
Engines: two new V8s, and two familiar names
Four powertrains carry over into 2027, but two of them are genuinely new. The 5.3L and 6.2L V8s are retired.
- 2.7L TurboMax four-cylinder — enhanced for 2027 and now paired with a 10-speed automatic instead of the eight-speed. Chevy claims best-in-class standard torque.
- 5.7L V8 — new, replacing the 5.3L. Part of the next-generation Small Block family.
- 6.6L V8 — new, replacing the 6.2L. Chevy says it’s the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in the class.
- 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel — the segment-exclusive inline-six carries over, and it’s now available on Work Truck.
The new V8s are assembled at GM’s Flint Engine Operations, Tonawanda Propulsion, and St. Catharines Propulsion plants. Output figures haven’t been released.
Towing: what to plan around
Chevrolet hasn’t published 2027 tow ratings. Since the truck rides on a revised version of the same platform and the new V8s are described as improvements in power and torque, the current-generation numbers are a reasonable planning floor. Here’s where the 2026 Silverado 1500 lands:
| Engine | Max conventional towing |
|---|---|
| 2.7L TurboMax | Up to 9,500 lbs |
| 5.3L V8 (retired for 2027) | Up to 11,300 lbs |
| 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel | Up to 13,300 lbs |
| 6.2L V8 (retired for 2027) | Up to 13,300 lbs |
Max figures require the Max Trailering Package and a specific cab, bed, and drivetrain combination. Most 2026 configurations without that package tow somewhere between 9,000 and 9,700 lbs. Max payload is 2,260 lbs.
One 2027 feature genuinely worth waiting for if you tow: Super Cruise now works while trailering. No other half-ton offers hands-free driving with a trailer attached. If you’re pulling a camper up the Thruway or a boat to the Hudson a few times a summer, that’s a different kind of upgrade than another 300 pounds of capacity.
What it’ll cost
MSRP hasn’t been announced. What we can tell you honestly is where the current truck sits: the 2026 Silverado 1500 lineup starts in the mid-$30,000s for a Work Truck and runs to roughly $66,400 for a High Country before options and destination. A loaded High Country with the Premium package and Super Cruise pushes past $80,000.
For 2027, expect a modest increase over those numbers given the redesign, the new engines, and the standard screens and safety tech across the lineup. Chevrolet is scheduled to publish full specifications on September 17, 2026 and pricing on September 18, 2026. We’ll have both posted here, and our team can walk you through what it means for a specific build.
Standard safety, upgraded
Every 2027 Silverado 1500 gets a longer list of standard driver assistance features, including four that are new this year:
- Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking (new)
- Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking (new)
- Side Bicyclist Alert (new)
- Reverse Automatic Braking (new)
- Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Alert, Blind Zone Steering Assist
- Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Safety Alert Seat, IntelliBeam, front and rear Park Assist, HD Rear Vision Camera
New colors for 2027
Three new paints join the palette, all premium-cost options: Apex Red, Pacific Blue Metallic, and Trillium Green Metallic. Returning colors include White Sands, Summit White, Polar White Tricoat, Black, Riptide Blue Metallic, and Sterling Gray Metallic.
Should you wait, or buy a 2026?
It depends on what you’re after.
Wait for the 2027 if you want the new V8s, the bigger screens, Super Cruise while towing, or the standard Z71 on a 4WD Silverado. The redesign is substantial enough that a 2027 will feel like a different truck, and it’ll hold that “current generation” status for years.
Buy a 2026 if you’d rather have the truck now and the incentives that come with an outgoing model year. End-of-generation trucks are often the best deal on the lot, and the 6.2L V8 is on its way out permanently if that engine matters to you.
