2026 Chevrolet Trax: Trims, Pricing, and Who It’s Right For

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax starts at $21,700 for the LS and tops out at $25,400 for the 2RS and ACTIV, before a $1,795 destination charge. Every trim uses the same 137-hp turbocharged three-cylinder, the same six-speed automatic, and front-wheel drive, and every trim is EPA-rated at 28 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined. That makes the buying decision refreshingly simple: you’re choosing features and styling, not powertrains.

One thing to know up front, because it matters more here than it would in most markets: the Trax is front-wheel drive only. There is no all-wheel-drive option on any trim. More on what that means for Hudson Valley winters below.

The honest answer on all-wheel drive

Plenty of shoppers come to us assuming a small crossover means all-wheel drive. The Trax doesn’t offer it, and we’d rather you hear that from us than find out in the showroom.

Here’s the practical read. A front-wheel-drive car on good winter tires handles a plowed Dutchess County road perfectly well, and thousands of people around here drive exactly that setup every January without incident. What front-wheel drive doesn’t do is get you up an unplowed, steep driveway or through deep unbroken snow. If your driveway is long, unpaved, and climbs, or if you regularly need to move before the plow does, you’ll want to look at an Equinox or Trailblazer instead. Both are available with AWD and both are on our lot.

If your winters are mostly a paved commute with a set of snow tires, the Trax will do the job and save you real money doing it. That’s the trade, stated plainly! The Trax is a phenomenal commuter car, and also great for someone who wants a compact car, at an excellent price tag!

Trim levels and pricing

Five trims sit at three prices, because 1RS and LT are matched and 2RS and ACTIV are matched. At each of those rungs you’re choosing a direction, not a level of equipment.

All prices exclude the $1,795 destination charge, tax, title, license, and dealer fees. A delivered LS lands at about $23,495.

LS — $21,700

The entry point, and better equipped than the price suggests. You get an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED headlights, an HD rear vision camera, and the full Chevy Safety Assist suite. For a new vehicle under $22,000 before destination, that’s a genuine feature set rather than a stripped loss leader.

1RS — $23,200

The same mechanical package with RS exterior styling, darker trim, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and sport accents inside. It keeps the 8-inch screen. This is the trim for someone who cares how the car looks in the driveway.

LT — $23,200

Same price as the 1RS, opposite priorities. The LT is where the 11-inch touchscreen shows up, along with six-speaker audio, automatic climate control, remote start, keyless entry with push-button start, roof rails, privacy glass, and a rigid rear cargo cover. If you’re deciding between these two, ask yourself whether you’d rather see the upgrade or use it. Most families end up here.

2RS — $25,400

The LT’s equipment with the RS treatment layered on: the largest wheels in the lineup, a unique grille, black bowtie badging, red interior accents, and Evotex synthetic leather. The driver’s seat gains power adjustment with lumbar support, which is worth real money on a long commute.

ACTIV — $25,400

Same price, rugged direction instead of sporty. Black exterior trim, roof rails, and distinctive interior colorways including the Artemis accent scheme. It’s an appearance package rather than an off-road package, so treat it as a look you like rather than added capability.

Space, and why it’s the Trax’s best trick

At 178.6 inches long on a 106.3-inch wheelbase, the Trax is longer than several vehicles that cost more, and it uses that length well. There’s 25.6 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seat and 54.1 cubic feet with the 60/40 split seat folded, which is unusually generous for the segment and the practical reason a lot of people pick this car.

In everyday terms: a full farm stand haul, a couple of hockey bags, or a flat-packed piece of furniture without folding anything down. The back seat is genuinely usable for adults, not just a place to put a car seat, and the low load floor makes it easy to get heavy things in and out.

Technology

This is where the Trax punches hardest for the money.

• Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard on every trim. No cable, no subscription, no upgrade required.
• 8-inch touchscreen on LS and 1RS, 11-inch on LT, 2RS, and ACTIV. The 11-inch display is large for anything near this price.
• Six speakers on LT, 2RS, and ACTIV; four on LS and 1RS.
• OnStar with a built-in modem and Wi-Fi hotspot capability, with trial periods that vary by service. Remote start, lock and unlock, and vehicle locator are handled through the Chevrolet app.
• Over-the-air software updates, so some system improvements arrive without a service visit.

Safety: what’s standard and what the crash tests say

Chevy Safety Assist is standard on all five trims and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision alert, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, a following distance indicator, IntelliBeam automatic high beams, and an HD rear vision camera. Teen Driver is included as well.

Blind spot monitoring is not standard on any trim. It comes in the optional Driver Confidence Package alongside rear cross-traffic alert, lane change alert, and rear park assist. That package is available across the lineup and adds adaptive cruise control on the LT, 2RS, and ACTIV. Around narrow village streets and driveways bordered by hedgerows, it’s the option we’d tell you to spend on first.

On independent crash testing, we’d rather give you the full picture than a flattering slice of it. IIHS results for the 2026 Trax are mixed:

Every 2026 Trax carries a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty covering the turbocharged engine and transmission. Rust-through coverage runs 6 years/100,000 miles, which matters on roads that see as much salt as ours do. Roadside assistance runs 5 years/60,000 miles.
