More Than 100 Years in the Making
Chevy has a long history that goes back more than one hundred years. In 1918, less than ten years after Chevrolet got its start, the first Chevy production truck was unveiled. The 1918 One-Ton was designed to save customers money and provide an opportunity to customize their trucks. This was achieved by offering the One-Ton as either a stripped-down chassis or with a simple express body.
The chassis option meant the truck came with nothing more than a simple cowl to cover the engine. The rest of the bodywork was entirely up to the customer, allowing them to build the truck they wanted. The express body option provided a basic truck bed and had the option to add an eight-post curtain top for protection from the elements.
About ten years later, Chevy made another great leap forward by introducing the first overhead-valve six-cylinder engine. The International Series AC Light Delivery Truck looked quite a bit more like the trucks we know today. The Chevy truck received many changes over the following years, with lots of focus on design. Flair-side and step-side trucks were all the rage until the fleetside was introduced in 1955.
In 1973, Chevy introduced the C30 one-ton dually. Showing off the now well-known “round body” design, this was the first heavy-duty truck to offer dual rear wheels and a two-row crew cab. In many ways, the C30 was the first modern heavy-duty truck, adding to its list of firsts. The Chevy truck line continued to impress, and in 1999, the Silverado evolved from a high-end trim of the C/K Series to an independent model. This proved to be a fantastic move on Chevy’s part as the new Silverado became the backbone of the brand’s truck lineup.

The Chevys That Drive You
What’s the first word that pops into your head when you hear Chevy? If that word is “truck,” then you are in good company. Chevy and trucks go together like peanut butter and jelly. An American classic, the Chevy truck is nothing short of a legend, and that can be seen in the iconic Chevy Silverado and Colorado.
The Chevy Silverado
The Chevy Silverado is one of the best-selling pickup trucks on the market and has raked in accolades and recognition for years. This lineup includes the Chevy Silverado 1500, 2500 HD, and 3500 HD. The 1500 is a light-duty, full-size pickup truck that features many of the same great benefits as the 2500 HD and 3500 HD but in a slightly smaller package. Easy to maneuver, the Silverado 1500 provides a smooth and comfortable ride.
The heavy-duty Chevy Silverado bumps up the features for those looking for more trailering and hauling capabilities. With powerful V8 engines, impressive cargo volume, and Chevy’s suite of trailering technology, the Silverado HD is an industry leader. This truck is also built to last, which is one reason it is the vehicle of choice for hard workers across the country.
The Chevy Colorado
The Chevy Colorado is a midsize pickup truck that has been a serious contender in its class since the beginning. Not one to shy away from an adventure, the Chevy Colorado is designed for the rugged at heart. This truck is more than capable of towing with the best of them, but it is off the beaten track where this truck really shines.
Designed with a drive mode for every occasion, the Chevy Colorado can tackle rough terrain and slick conditions with an adventuresome spirit. The design maximizes ground clearance to make the aggressive stance a purposeful design choice. Performance-driven tech provides safety and driver-assistance features that are ideal for off-roading, such as a full suite of cameras that let you spot obstacles on the trail.
Much like the Chevy Silverado, the Chevy Colorado also has a unique tailgate. While the Silverado Multi-Flex tailgate is more focused on work, the Colorado’s option is more focused on fun. The StowFlex Tailgate opens to reveal a lockable compartment, ideal for recreational equipment, valuables, and more. Plus, with a built-in drain, this compartment can double as a cooler for those well-deserved weekend getaways.
