An iconic company like Chevy has always got something going on—a new trick up their sleeve, a new model rolling off their lots—to keep drivers engaged. It’s always exciting to see what this automaker will come up with next. With 2023 nearly halfway over, we’ve already seen some great things from Chevy—including the introduction of the all-new Chevy Colorado Trail-Boss Edition, as well as the eye-catching Corvette Z06—but one thing many drivers are curious about is what they can expect from the best-selling Silverado series that includes the light-duty 1500 and the two grades of the Silverado HD.

The Chevy Silverado is an impressive machine carefully designed and crafted to meet the needs of its drivers, big and small. For 2023, drivers can stop by their Chevy Silverado 1500 dealer to see the latest and greatest in person; this Silverado 1500 saw the introduction of the off-roading, rugged ZR2 trim for the first time on a Silverado.

As for the Silverado HD series, Chevy didn’t fail to impress, offering unbeatable power and performance combined with plenty of cab and trim options for drivers to peruse and choose from. With consistency like this, how can the Chevy Silverado family possibly get any better? Well, buckle in because Chevy has some great changes ahead for 2024…

Big Changes for the Silverado HD Line

The Silverado 1500 is looking great for 2024, but we’ll get to that in a minute; right now, we can’t help but focus on the 2024 Silverado HD. It’s safe to say Chevy isn’t just waiting around, relying on its tough reputation to sell this heavy-duty truck—no way. This automaker is taking the Silverado HD to a brand new level with the expansion of its ZR2 trim.

The ultra-popular ZR2 trim was previously only offered for Chevy’s midsize pickup, the Colorado, before Chevy added the option to the Silverado 1500 trim lineup for 2023—and now it’s the HD’s turn. This is a smart move on Chevy’s part. If you’re not familiar with the ZR2, this trim was designed to take you past the pavement and into the pines. If off-roading is your idea of a good time, the ZR2 wants to be your friend. Thanks to the already robust power that the Silverado HD series has available, we can only imagine how sensational this ride will be.

Chevy has never been a company that comprises when it comes to power and performance, so drivers can expect only good things for 2024 regarding the Silverado HD series. The stellar Allison ten-speed automatic transmission will be standard on both the 6.6L gas and the 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engines. If you’ll recall, the previous standard offering was a six-speed automatic—so what does this mean? Thanks to the innovative Allison ten-speed automatic transmission’s ability to create smaller steps between gears, your engine can reach its peak performance more smoothly and stay there for longer. Thanks, Chevy; we owe you big time for that.

But let’s not get too excited because there is still more power to come, thanks to the increase in the Silverado HD’s 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 engine performance. Drivers can now expect a sturdy 470 hp and a demonstrative 975 lb-ft of torque. Not bad at all!

The Silverado 1500—What’s New?

Okay, okay, we’ve waited long enough! We’re excited to see what the lineup of Chevy trucks for sale has in store for the best-selling Silverado 1500. Despite getting a refreshing overhaul for 2023, the Silverado 1500 half-ton pickup is looking good for 2024 in more ways than one.

As far as powertrains go, drivers can look forward to the Silverado’s all-new 2.7L Turbomax I-4 engine as well as the addition of the 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel I-6 engine, which will be available for the ZR2 trim. Active Exhaust with Sport Mode will now come standard with the 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine for those who want diesel-comparable high-output while staying gasoline-powered. So let’s get this straight for 2024: drivers will have engine choices of the 2.7L Turbomax, the 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel, the 6.2L V8, as well as a 5.3L V8, which has the second-best horsepower of the bunch. Keep in mind both the 5.3L and 6.2L come with Dynamic Fuel Management to increase the engine’s efficiency without sacrificing power.

In addition to the ZR2 trim, drivers can select from 2024 trim options that include the Work Truck (WT), Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country. Along with these trim offerings, there are plenty of new performance and appearance packages drivers can pick from in order to achieve a personalized level of power, comfort, and convenience. Expect a new Midnight Edition available for the High Country trim level that includes power-retractable steps in a sleek black and highlighted with LED lighting. The Blackout Appearance Package can be equipped on the Custom, Custom Trail Boss, RST, LT Trail Boss, and the ZR2 trim choices. On top of that, opt for the available Safety Package and WT Safety Package that includes Front and Rear Park Assist.

As for the exterior, new eye-catching hues will include Lakeshore Blue Metallic and Gray Metallic. That’s in addition to an already vibrant color pallet that includes favorites like Red Hot Red, Summit White, and Sand Dune Metallic.

Have you heard about Chevy’s impressive Super Cruise technology? This premium driver assistance tech allows drivers to go hands-free on over 200,000 miles of compatible roads throughout the US and Canada. It helps keep you centered in your lane and lets you sit back and relax during long, mundane drives that might otherwise leave you feeling fatigued. Sounds good, right? It will be available on the High-Country trim for 2024, so keep an eye out for it.

As for standard tech, drivers will be glad to hear that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will come standard on the Silverado’s WT trim. Drivers will be able to quickly and easily connect their compatible smartphones to access their favorite apps, playlists, and navigation, as well as send or receive messages, for a completely personalized driving experience.

Drivers can opt for the LT trim or higher to gain the impressive 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen that not only has Android and Apple capabilities but also syncs with Google Built-In allowing you to get turn-by-turn directions and real-time road condition updates to help your drive go a little smoother.
